In May, I traveled to Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya in Mexico. It is a stunning adults-only, all-inclusive resort with a modern look and tropical vibe– and I think you’re going to love it as much as I did.
The vacation I enjoyed with my mom afforded us the chance to visit Secrets Akumal, and I don’t regret taking the time out to check out the resort for clients with an upcoming stay there.
The vibe was completely different from the family setting at Dreams, so right away I knew it was the perfect resort for couples to escape from everyday life or an adults-only destination wedding. Bonus that the sargassum (seaweed) was much more manageable at this beach for the time of year of our visit. The clients I had visit exclaimed the seaweed was nonexistent just a few weeks after my visit. Bonus!
As soon as out taxi pulled up, I knew the resort was going to be a showstopper! Having only recently opened, I was expected a bit of disarray, but everything was running like a well-oiled machine. Capacity was high, but you would never know it being of the strategic layout of the property.
We enjoyed a leisurely stroll around the resort, taking in views of the beach, pools, and common areas. The multiple pools, heated in the winter, were all gorgeous, but my favorite areas were the porches with tables, chairs, and oversized swings—the perfect spots to just hang out and relax.
Tulum is a popular area nearby that boasts ancient ruins, allowing guests the privilege of exploring and adventure without making the trek to Chichen Izta or Cancun. Xel-Ha Park where you can snorkel in a Caribbean Sea inlet is also close by.
This resort is perfectly suited for a couple’s getaway, friends’ weekend, or destination wedding. With it being adults-only, it is great to escape from the pressures and stressors of parenthood. If you’re like me, you’ll immediately feel your worries melt away amidst the natural, tropical setting.
If you follow me, you know I just love to travel.
But it’s also important to me as a top-tier travel agent to be able to recommend places that I have personally been. I am able to create extraordinary experiences for you because I know the unique features of each place and can anticipate how a resort will align with just what you’re looking for.
Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya offers a beautiful beach, stunning pools, and incredible suites— and I know you’re going to want to try it out for yourself.
See you on the next adventure!

Continuing on from yesterday's post, we selected Dreams Puerto Aventuras for our mother-daughter getaway, because we were intrigued by the idea of swimming with dolphins. Lucky for us, the resort boasts its only dolphin and manatee program which is offered via Dolphin Discovery, a company that oversees many of the Caribbean's dolphin interactions.
Swimming with dolphins was something once on my bucket list. In fact, I had it high on my 30 Before 30 list. It wasn't something I accomplished, and, after some thought, decided not to carry over onto my 40 Before 40 list. After some consideration and research, I wasn't sure this was something I wanted to do or make a point to do anyhow. However, after my mom mentioned wanting to swim with dolphins on this trip, I decided to induldge her.
I was apprehensive at first, but I'm so glad we did it! Our package allowed us time to interact with manatees, feed them, and pet them, as well as swim AND kayak with dolphins!
Is swimming with dolphins for you?
Earlier this year, in the late Spring, my mom & I headed to Mexico for a weekend of relaxation and mother-daughter bonding. Not only was it great to rest, it was great to spend some one-on-one time together, which is few and far between these days. We decided on Dreams Puerto Aventuras, a family-friendly resort in a village of the same name, for our stay.
We chose the resort as we wanted a quiet, non-party vacation, but still something with a bit of fun. A big selling point for us was the village, Puerto Aventuras, where the resort is located. It is a small, completely gated community with guards where many ex-pats and locals enjoy a quiet life. The secure village allowed us the opportunity to freely walk around to shop, take in a taste of local living, and feel completely safe!
We also loved the idea of swimming with dolphins! Something we ultimately took advantage of on-site. The village is home to Dolphin Discovery, offering excursions to feed manatees, swim with dolphins, and kayak with dolphins. We had an amazing time participating in this experience!
At the resort, we enjoyed the family-friendly pool, as well as adults-only option with a swim-up bar. The restaurants were fine for a short trip, and the beach was quaint. We enjoyed laying out on the rocky side of the beach under thatched umbrellas. It was truly picturesque!
Mother-Daughter Trip | My mom & I selected this resort for our weekend getaway as it was a good mixture of family and adventure, i.e. swimming with dolphins. We aren't overly party people, so this was the perfect quiet vacation for us. We enjoyed time in the pool by the swim-up bar without anyone getting too wild and crazy. We also enjoyed the shopping in Puerto Aventuras, and felt completely comfortable walking around the village together. If you are looking for a quiet mother-daughter or easy-going girls trip, Dreams Puerto Aventuras could be a great option for you!
Family Vacation | As I mentioned above, there are lots of family activities available here, great restaurants, and it is close by to Xel-Ha Adventure Park, a great option for a day excursion. With family friendly AND adult-only pools, there is room for fun for the kids and relaxation for mom & dad. Daily activities abound like fire dancers, foam pool parties, and game shows, giving all members of the family the opportunity for a good time!
Destination Wedding | With being a smaller, more budget-conscious resort, this could be a good option for a destination wedding if it suits your wants & needs for your big day. Being a family-friendly. resorts allows you to invite familiy & friends of all ages to come along to witness your nuptials, something that adults-only resorts cannot offer.
The elephant in the room. | Now, I can't in good concious ignore the elephant in the room—sargassum aka seaweed. The dreaded sargassum rears its ugly, alibet natural head just about every year. Though resorts try their best to keep beaches clean, no one can control the weather & ocean currents, which are what bring in the sargassum. So what is my tip? If you want to vacation, the harsh truth is, just roll with it! Sometimes it is there, sometimes it isn't. Sometimes its bad, sometimes its nonexistent. Just like no one can control the rain, no one can control the seaweed. Don't let it ruin your vacay! Hang by the pool, or lay by the beach anyway (that's what we did!).
Is this the right resort for your vacation or wedding? | So, is this the right resort for you & your family? That is where we work together! Let's chat about what you are looking for your vacation or destination wedding, and I can help you decide if Dreams Puerto Aventuras is right for you!

Hey there! I am DEFINITELY dreaming of warm sunshiny places like Cozumel today. We are, literally, in the middle of flood hear in Texas, and there is no end in site. To keep my mind off of this insane weather, I thought we could take a little boat ride to Cozumel, Mexico today. This was my favorite place to stop on our Western Caribbean Cruise, and had so much to offer! Shopping, beautiful waters, shore excursions, and great scenery.
We had a snorkeling shore excursion scheduled, but rough waters nixed that. But, we still made the most of it! We spent sometime shopping at the port which was completely decked out with beautiful holiday decorations. We found BEAUTIFUL trinkets for souvenirs and our favorite, hand painted clay nativity set and a hand carved fish bone nativity. After shopping at the beautiful cruise port, we caught a taxi to Club Cozumel Caribe. It was a beautiful resort on a gorgeous white beach with a pool, fun for kids, and a bar for the adults serving up buckets of beer! Paradise, right?
The waters and beaches here are truly stunning, and just what you imagine the Caribbean to be! Cozumel was definitely my favorite stop on our Western Caribbean Cruise. The water was warmer than the stop at Progresso, as it's a bit farther south, and the water was even bluer! I hope you enjoyed my little stroll through Cozumel. We are heading into our last week of National Plan a Cruise Month, and if you are itching for your own cruise to Cozumel, now is the time to book! There are amazing sales going on this month, and you won't want to miss out! Hope to hear from you soon. Bon Voyage.
