Something I’ve heard from past clients is they didn’t think about seasickness. For many of us, the motion of the boat doesn’t seem to bother us. For others, they are more susceptible to experience motion sickness. Sometimes, motion sickness can result from the rocking of the boating in windy weather. Whatever the cause, there are ways to relieve motion sickness while on a cruise.
I’ve put together a list of a few things that have worked for me or others I know. Below you can read about a few remedies to help you combat seasickness on your cruise vacation.
Ginger is an amazing way to combat seasickness! Pop a ginger candyor pop a top on a ginger ale for quick relief of mild motion sickness. You could even bring ginger essential oilto smell or ingest to help. Peppermint is also a great nausea relief. Helpful hint: ginger works great for acute morning sickness as well!
Dramamine, or other anti-motion sickness medications, is another tried and true method of alleviating motion sickness. This worked great for me when a cruise hit a small storm. After taking it, I ended up eating more that evening’s dinner than any of the nights before. Ha! Worked very well for me! I even found a kind of Dramamine that contains ginger.
I tried Sea-Band while pregnant, and are a complete natural, non-medication way to relieve nausea. They are wrist bands that use acupressure to help with nausea. The bands have buttons that press on a specific pressure point known to effectively relieve nausea. They didn’t work well for me during my pregnancy, but I feel like they are worth a short for milder nausea. I also love that it is an all-natural option!
If you are heading out on a cruise and know ahead of time that you suffer from moderate to severe motion sickness, I would recommend an anti-nausea patch. There are versions available in stores and on Amazon, but I would talk with your doctor about a prescription type.
