Hi friends! I hope you had a wonderful weekend, and are getting back into the swing of things after the holidays. I'm adjusting to spending more time at home as we wait for the arrival of our twins. So I am spending a lot of time on the couch and working on the computer, not to mention getting naps in while I can! Anyway, I'm excited to have you back today. I'm continuing sharing my trip to Memphis with a very special stop, the National Civil Rights Museum. I had a different post planned for today, but I thought sharing this important bit of our trip on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day seemed much more fitting and appropriate.
Though this museum wasn't at the top of my radar or even a place I wanted to visit, I am excited to share my time there with you. Why didn't I want to go? I knew it would be so incredibly tough to experience, and I did not want to face that. However, I am so grateful that I did! I am sadden that this is apart of our world's and nation's history, and it was something that I definitely needed (and still need) to learn more about. There is still much work to be done in regards to human rights, inequality, and racism, but it was refreshing to see how far we have come.
The National Civil Rights Museum at the Lorraine Motel walks you through the history of slavery in America, desegregation, more about Dr. King's and his movement, the events leading up to his death, and so much more. At the museum, we explored the very place Martin Luther King, Jr. slept and was assassinated, and stood precisely where the shooter devastated the world. I cannot put into words the feelings that I experienced while browsing the museum and being in those very places. All I can do is encourage you to visit, and experience it for yourself.
I hope you'll enjoy these photos to get a better idea of the museum's experience, the horrid history of slavery in America, and a better understanding of how far we have come and how far we still have to go. Thank you for stopping by today. May you go out and do good in the world today, on this day of service, and everyday!
