Winter Packing Tips

Packing for a cold weather trip can be a little tricky, especially for this Texas girl! I have a few rules of thumb that I follow to keep my luggage at a minimum and to make sure I don’t end up with the worst cold weather mishaps–chapped lips and wet feet.
Check them out below.

Airport Wear

My first rule of thumb for packing for a cold weather getaway is to wear my biggest layers on flying day. So I wear my coat and clunkiest boots on the plane. Doing so allows me much more room in my suitcase for all of the layers I’m going to need. Even though my coat may be cumbersome strolling through the airport, it is multipurpose on travel day–saves luggage space and makes a great blanket for the plane.

Accessorize

Photos are important to me, and I don’t want to look the same each day of a trip. So I like to switch things up each day. To avoid packing multiple outwear pieces, I like to accessorize with different gloves, scarves, and hats. They pack small enough I can take different accessories for each day!

Packing Cubes/Bags

Packing cubes or Ziplock bags are great ways to keep your accessories easily accessible. If you are going from hot to cold weather, stick a collection of cold weather accessories handy in the top of your suitcase. They are also a great way to keep your outfits of the day organized. Check out my post on packing tips to read more on that.

Weatherproof Foot Wear

A major must for winter travel is waterproof shoes. Since UGGS upped their game with waterproofing, they are my go to for snowy weather. Rain boots are also a great options. The main things is whatever will keep your feet warm and dry!

Hydration

Cold weather can do a number on your skin. Be sure to pack lotion to keep your skin hydrated. Pack chapstick to avoid chapped lips. This is something a lot of folks forget and regret it. You won’t be sorry for adding a few extra tubes of lotion and lip protection in your bag.

Hopefully these simple tips help you better prepare for cold weather travel.
